Super Bowl Monday and School

Well, it's over.

The hype, the game and the endless coverage.

Full disclosure:  I did not watch the game.  As you know, the kneeling issue during the anthem has been a huge deal breaker for me this season.  We purposely avoided the coverage and the game tonight in an effort to express our discontent with the NFL's handling of the situation.  (We are a Nielson family and felt this would be a double expression of our views to the NFL.  I have personally contacted my team a few times in reference to this matter. )

However, I have a family member who has Philly roots and has remained a big fan.   I believe you can hear her shouting and cheering from where ever you may be reading this.  Don't mind her, just keep reading.

Tomorrow (or later on today) will bring students who may have stayed up way too late, eaten way too much and spent way too little time preparing for my class.  You have a few choices--embrace it or ignore it.

For me, I will direct my students to the Punic Wars.  (Last week we paralleled Rome with the Eagles and Carthage with the Patriots.  I'm glad the Eagles won to keep my analogy working.  I'm sure that was their motivation.)

Smack talk may ensue.  It can be very instructive to listen to the way students interact.  It can be a time to help students express different opinions without being obnoxious.  It can be a way to help students be good sports.

Don't judge me, but I will have a difficult time not laughing maniacally at the misfortune of a certain player...you know who it is...deflate gate, goat....you know....TB....  But, I will persevere and try to be a good example to my students.  The teacher's lounge....well, that's another story....so watch out all you fair weather Pat fans....it was tempestuous today.     (I'm sorry but as loyal fan of my team who received the wrong end of the cheating, I have to automatically be against the Pats.  Sorry if it hurts your feelings. :) )  Oh, and my team is now undefeated for next year!

Have a great day tomorrow and try to keep your cool and your sanity!
