Highlights for Teachers

I remember reading a book in college written by a teacher who told the story of her relationship with one of her students. She impacted the student greatly. (One Child, by Torey Hayden) If memory serves, she broke through to a child who was abused and shut down and made great inroads with the child. I really wanted to be that type of teacher. I think we all do. Someone who steps in, does all they can, and finds the student moving forward. This book impacted the way I thought about being a teacher. (At the time, I was a college student on the journey toward teaching, but it truly altered my thought process concerning the future teaching I would be doing.) This book was ultimately famous and many other people found it inspirational. Sometimes, when I think about the difficult to reach student, I remember this lady's perseverance and determination to help a student, and it reminds me that the buried treasure of teaching is love. ...

Hybrid Teaching: Week 2 In the Books - In the Weeds

If a picture paints a thousand words, then just look at the title picture and I'll save some time writing this post. :) Not really, I truly want to give some honest and raw, unfiltered responses to the week. My purpose is to give some ideas of the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat involved in this hybrid teaching environment. I'm scouting the road, just ahead of some of you, and I hope that my journey will be beneficial to you. Normally, I am a positive spin person, and I truly am still that person, but to help folks, I'm giving the unfiltered, un positivity washed response. My Small Battlefield in Context of Kavenaugh, Matthew and Brunson

Is your head just spinning? In the course of a week's time, we have a hotly contested Supreme Court Justice at his first day of work, a hurricane, originally slated to be mild, but actually arriving as horrific, and a Pastor imprisoned in Turkey for being a missionary from the USA will be meeting with the President as a free man sometime today. Oh, and one of my students finally earned above a 60 on their math test. And one of my students finally turned in his homework. And another one finally studied for a test and it made a difference. I'm guessing that the last few did not make it to your radar, but that is my battlefield. I didn't get an update on your battlefield either, but I can imagine you have your own tales to tell. Like Justice Kavenaugh, teachers are the recipients of a lot of commentary whether substantiated or unsubstantiated.
