Highlights for Teachers Welcomes You!

The original homestead of Kilarney's family :)

Hey there!

This is the place for you if you are a teacher, beleaguered or invigorated, that likes to think about the big picture while mired in the small pixel!

A little about me.....I'm told you won't read without a bio!

I'm a joyful teacher who has hosted at least 30 classes in the Elementary, Middle School and High School grades, but miraculously has maintained an age of 24 years.  I've also served in the administrative wing of education.   I'm a happy wife, a proud mom, and grateful member of a huge family.  I'm actively involved in the music and education ministries of my church.  Written today under a pseudonym to ensure each student referenced (whether current or previous) has significant privacy, all of the stories are true.  At times, strongly identifiable information is altered to prevent any unintended revelations (no, Molly, your dad is not a Martian!).   Until the time where my current job will not be in jeopardy from the information in this blog, I need use a pen name......Kilarney O'Dell it is.  The picture above is the original home of my ancestors in Ireland which is still held by distant relatives.

Some of you will have met me at teacher's conferences and know my true identity.  I hope you can help me keep my pseudonym going by addressing me as such while we are online. :)

I want this blog to be a blessing and help to you.  If there should be a topic that you want discussed, or if there should be an area where you'd like a fresh perspective, always reach out.  It would be my privilege to assist in any way I can, whether in a personal conversation or as a general blog post.

As of August 2020, this blog was moved from its original "dot com  via Word Press" location, to the Google Blogger platform.  I am rapidly moving all of our content to the new location, and labeling each one with its original publish date.  Don't expect 30 posts every month!  That number is a result of the copying over.  I hope that you will be able to enjoy the posts that are truly new, as well as those that appear to be new, but are not.

Part of the transition to Blogger involves the shift the blog itself will be taking.  It is our plan to add content specific helps, and ultimately offer a mentoring program.  We hope to be able to move our usefulness beyond the reading of ideas to the ease of application to one's classroom.

Too many excellent teachers are leaving education.  We hope in our small way to encourage those still in the field and to challenge the climate of education to be more conducive to keeping the best teachers.  Highlights for Teachers hopes you will come often, read, smile, contribute and keep teaching!
