Teacher Appreciation Week 2018 Beattitudes

It's Teacher Appreciation Week!  Yay!

No doubt, we will receive adorable crafty items fashioned from Pinterest, handwritten notes and gift cards.  I will be grateful for each one.  However, today's post is my list of things I appreciate.  (For your convenience, a gift suggestion is listed for each one.  If I could, I would buy one of each for every teacher that visits this site.)

  1. Blessed are those who defer their own enjoyment for the enjoyment of others.   I'm thankful for every teacher who spent a large segment of this weekend creating excellent lessons and activities for the purpose of engaging and enriching the learning of their students. (Spa day gift card.)
  2. Blessed are those who create something extra for others while eliminating something essential for themselves.  I'm thankful for every teacher who still has laundry stacked in their home because they spent laundry time crafting a video that will add that extra something to their lesson this week.  (dry cleaning gift card)
  3. Blessed are those who give out of their poverty to enrich others.  I'm thankful for each teacher who could easily make double their salary in a different field, but still comes to the school every day to make a difference. (VISA gift card)
  4. Blessed are those who go the extra mile for those just learning to walk.  I'm thankful for each teacher who spends the day on his/her feet without sitting all day, every day.  (Zappos gift card or a few pair of Tieks).
  5. Blessed are those who love the unlovable.  I'm thankful for the teachers who find good and authentic things to say to students who tend to be difficult behaviorally or emotionally or academically.  (Gift card to Barnes and Nobles or Amazon.
  6. Blessed are those who see what someone can be rather than what they are.  I'm thankful for teachers whose vision of potential is never dimmed by the current reality.   (Gift card to LensCrafters)
  7. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after knowledge and share what they find.  I'm thankful for every teacher that shares their success and failures in the classroom which allow all of us to learn and do better in our own classrooms.  (Gift cards to restaurants that don't have drive thrus).
  8. Blessed are those who share the fruits of their labor with those who need it more.  I'm thankful for every teacher who spends their salary on things to make their classroom a better place.  I'm thankful for every pencil and learning item provided by the teacher.  (Gift cards to Staples).
  9. Blessed are those who persevere amid criticism because they know what they are doing is right.  I'm thankful for every teacher who endures unfair and unjust criticism from parents and students and still manages to do the right thing for the students. (Earbuds)
  10. Blessed are those who shine enthusiastically amid the many changes and challenges in education.  I'm thankful for every teacher who has ridden wave after wave of the latest educational fad or method or challenge and remains in the classroom year after year, giving their very best. (Tropical vacation)

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!

I'm thankful for you!
