Devotional Thought - On Your Knees

Recent news coverage has been plastered with taking the knee.  The NFL has been waffling on the way in which they handle the behavior of the players who kneel during the showing of the colors and the National Anthem.  Those who kneel state they are protesting racial inequities from the police department.  Those who watch the games are offended by the disrespect shown to first responders, veterans, soldiers and police- many of whom were witnessing the disrespect first hand.

It makes me consider the Scripture, James 5:16, " Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."  This is the kneeling our nation needs.  We, as a people, are inundated with bad news, natural disasters, troubled youth and school systems, dishonesty, shootings, and wrongdoing in places you would never expect.  These troubling times need good people to stand for right and to take to their knees before God in prayer.

I'm personally praying for my students, for their families, for their situations, for the influences that they face and for their future.  I imagine you are praying similar prayers.  The needs are great.  The One to whom we direct our prayers is greater than the need.  Our hope for things to improve is rooted in the knowledge that prayer changes things.

Keep praying!
